Prophecy in the Second Psalm, Part 3 of 3

This column is the final installment of a three-part series. Click here for Part 1 and Part 2. There are four speakers in the Second Psalm. David, God the Father, and Jesus God the Son have spoken in verses 1-9. Now we hear from the Holy Spirit. The following is also from John Hagee's book "Attack on America:"

Let's consider the words of God's Holy Spirit:

Now therefore, be wise, O kings;

Be instructed, you judges of the earth.

Serve the Lord with fear,

And rejoice with trembling.

Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,

And you perish in the way,

When His wrath is kindled but a little.

Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. (Ps. 2:10-12)

Ah, this is no simpering Spirit! Kings and judges are commanded to serve the Lord with fear, or awed respect. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

The apostle John walked and talked with Jesus for more than three years during His earthly ministry. Jesus counted John as one of His closest friends. But when John saw Jesus in the vision given to him in the Revelation, he "fell to His feet as dead" (Rev. 1:17).

I have a problem with Christians who "see the Lord" every Thursday night and demand that God perform for them. I have a problem with people who come to church late week after week, as though worshiping God were as casual a thing as going to the movies. I have a problem with people who stand chatting in the aisle while the choir is singing the call to worship.

Look at verse 12: "Kiss the Son, lest He be angry." Remember that God the Son is holy and powerful and deserving awed respect.

Love and anger go together; in fact, anger is love's clearest voice. When you shout at a child to come away from the street or to pull his hand away from a hot stove, you're shouting to get his attention. When that child deliberately disobeys and runs toward the street anyway, your anger flares, and you run after him because of love.

The Spirit ends with this promise: "Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him." Hear me, friend! The world has not seen the last of Jesus. He is coming again with power and great glory! Jerusalem will see Him, the Antichrist will tremble before His power, and Israel will recognize its Messiah and King.

Today this same Jesus offers you peace and salvation. Embrace Him today. Kiss Him. For tomorrow will come wrath and judgment. I can think of no better way to end this book than with the promise spoken by the prophet Isaiah:

I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;

They shall never hold their peace day or night.

You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent,

And give Him no rest till He establishes

And till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth. (62:6-7)

Glory and hallelujah! Even so, come Lord Jesus!
