The Ten Commandments in the New Testament

The Ten Commandments that was given to Moses in the Old testament, (in Exodus 20:1-17 and repeated in Deut. 5:6-22) are also found in the New Testament, spread out in various books. Where you say? The following is a comparison of the Old Testament Commandment, with it's relating New Testament Scripture. The Old Testament Commandments are familiar enough, that I will abbreviate them here.

1. O.T. - I, am the Lord your God. You shall not have other God's besides Me.

N.T. - "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment" (Mark 12:30).

2. O.T. - You shall not carve idols for yourselves, and shall not bow down before them or worship them.

N.T. - "And do not become idolaters, as some of them did..." (1 Corinthians 10:7)

3. O.T. - You shall not take the name of the Lord your God, in vain...

N.T. - "But I say to you, do not swear at all..." (Matt. 5:34)

4. O.T. - Keep the Sabbath holy, a day of worship and rest.

N.T. - "Therefore, a Sabbath rest still remains for the people of God. And whoever enters into God's rest, rests from his own works as God did from His" (Hebrews 4:9-10)

5. O.T. - Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord, your God, has commanded you, that you may have a long life and prosperity in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

N.T. - "Honor your father and mother. This is the first commandment with a promise, that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on earth." (Ephesians 6:2-3).

6. O.T. - You shall not kill.

N.T. - "But let no one among you be made to suffer as a murderer..." (1 Peter 4:15)

7. O.T. - You shall not commit adultery.

N.T. - "Let marriage be honored among all and the marriage bed be kept undefiled, for God will judge the immoral and adulterers." (Hebrews 13:4).

8. O.T. - You shall not steal.

N.T. - "The thief must no longer steal, but rather labor, doing honest work..." (Ephesians 4:28).

9. O.T. - You shall not bear dishonest witness against your neighbor.

N.T. - "Stop lying to one another..." (Colossians 3:9).

10. O.T. - You shall not covet anything belonging to someone else.

N.T. - "For know this and understand, that no fornicator, or unclean person, or covetous one has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God". (Ephesians 5:5).

This is just another example of how the Old Testament and the New Testament just flow together. Of how the 40 or so authors of the Bible, spread over 1500 years, all come together in one mind, as inspired by God.
